Position Description:
The Assistant Professor will be responsible for delivering effective and engaging instruction in college-level biology courses and contributing to curriculum development, academic advising, and student mentoring.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Mastery of Subject Matter:
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the biology discipline
- Engage students through cross-disciplinary connections
- Maintain subject relevance through ongoing professional development
Teaching Performance:
- Plan and deliver innovative, inclusive classroom instruction
- Foster student participation and critical thinking
- Adapt methods to accommodate diverse learning needs
- Use appropriate instructional technologies and materials
Evaluation of Student Learning:
- Design fair and consistent assessments aligned with course outcomes
- Maintain accurate records of student performance
- Contribute to institutional effectiveness by measuring student learning outcomes
College Engagement:
- Maintain office hours (minimum 10 hours/week)
- Participate in faculty mentoring, committee work, and academic events
- Support adjunct and dual enrollment faculty members
Program Contributions:
- Assist in curriculum review and new program development
- Participate in faculty meetings, training, and community events
- Promote CBC’s mission, goals, and strategic initiatives
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Biology or a closely related field
OR - Master’s degree in any discipline with 18 graduate hours in Biology
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and engage community college students
- Commitment to academic integrity, equity, and student success
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior teaching experience in a community college setting
- Strong communication, mentorship, and leadership skills
- Familiarity with instructional technology and distance learning methods
Work Environment & Travel:
- Requires light lifting, standing, and long periods of instruction
- Faculty must be willing to travel to other CBC sites as needed
- In-person, hybrid, or video conferencing formats may be used
