High School History Teacher – University of Chicago, IL

Position Description:

The High School History Teacher will:

  • Design and deliver engaging history lesson plans
  • Employ the Harkness Method to promote student-led discourse
  • Integrate primary sources and historical archives in instruction
  • Support student research using JSTOR, EBSCO, and World Newspaper Archive
  • Adapt teaching for diverse learning styles
  • Teach a variety of courses such as:
    • African-American, American, Early World, and European History
    • Modern World and World History
    • South Asian, East Asian, and Southeast Asian History
  • Collaborate across departments and divisions

This position contributes to the Lab School’s mission of academic excellence and inclusivity while promoting professional growth and collaboration.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in History or related field required

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years teaching at the high school or college level
  • Experience must include:
    • Teaching South, East, and Southeast Asian History
    • Use of JSTOR, EBSCO, and World Newspaper Archive
    • Application of the Harkness Method
    • Instruction using historical archives

Other Requirements:

  • Background check with conviction review required
  • No drug or health screening required
  • Exempt from Motor Vehicle Record inquiry

Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time | 40 hours/week
  • Exempt Position

Pay Scale:

  • Salary Range: $70,323 – $156,320 (based on experience and qualifications)
  • Pay Rate Type: Salary
  • Benefit Eligibility: Yes
    • Includes health, retirement, and paid leave
