Senior Instructional Professor of Computer Science at University of Chicago

Position Description:

The selected candidate will:

  • Serve as the lead instructor for key undergraduate CS courses:
    • CMSC 14100: Introduction to Computer Science
    • CMSC 25300: Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning
  • Manage and mentor a team of Instructional Professors
  • Hold regular office hours and contribute to student support
  • Participate in non-classroom educational activities, including:
    • Teaching assistant training
    • Course coordination
    • Exam committee participation
    • Undergraduate research mentorship and workshop development
  • Foster innovation in collaborative and experiential learning models

This faculty role includes opportunities for promotion and progression and is renewable with multi-year terms based on rank and performance.

Salary Range:

  • Assistant Senior Instructional Professor: $112,000 – $140,000
  • Associate Senior Instructional Professor: $135,000 – $155,000
  • Senior Instructional Professor: $150,000 – $190,000

Base salary covers a 9-month academic year; additional summer salary may be available.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field by the start date
  • Minimum two years of experience as a university-level instructor of record
  • Demonstrated ability to manage academic programs and personnel
