The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the Master of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledge (MSW-IK) program. The rank of appointment—Assistant, Associate, or Professor—is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will take on teaching, research, and graduate supervision responsibilities, with a specific focus on advancing Indigenous knowledge and social work practices. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025.

The Faculty of Social Work is one of Canada’s largest and most respected social work programs, offering BSW, MSW, MSW-IK, and PhD degrees. The MSW-IK program integrates Indigenous worldviews and critical theory, engaging students in either a thesis or service project track.

Position Description:
The successful applicant will:
- Teach in the MSW-IK program, delivering Indigenous-based curriculum
- Collaborate with Elders, academic colleagues, and staff
- Supervise graduate students in thesis or community service projects
- Participate in research, academic service, and curriculum review
- Support and strengthen Indigenous communities through social work education
- Engage in faculty-wide renewal of MSW programs
This teaching position provides a unique opportunity to shape Indigenous social work education at a critical time of growth and transformation in the faculty.
Qualifications:
Required:
- PhD (completed or near completion) in Social Work or a related field
- Master or Bachelor of Social Work
- Experience with Indigenous-based social work or policy
- Knowledge of Indigenous protocols and critical theories (e.g., colonialism, Indigenism)
- Active research program relevant to Indigenous communities
Preferred:
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and organizations
- Familiarity with co-teaching approaches with Elders and community leaders
- Academic publications and teaching experience in graduate-level programs
