The Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago invites applications for faculty recruitment in the role of Instructional Professor (Open-Rank). This is a full-time, career-track teaching position that aligns with the university’s commitment to excellence in education and innovation. Job Title:

Instructional Professor (Open-Rank) – Department of Computer Science

University of Chicago Invites Applications for Instructional Professor in Computer Science

Position Description:

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach six computer science courses per academic year, in areas such as:
    • Introductory Programming
    • Algorithms
    • Machine Learning
    • Systems
  • Maintain regular student office hours
  • Engage in non-classroom service duties (e.g., advising, mentoring)
  • Participate in ongoing professional development

This is a benefits-eligible role covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU.

Salary Range / Pay Grade:

This position includes a nine-month academic appointment with the following salary ranges:

  • Assistant Instructional Professor: $110,000 – $139,000
  • Associate Instructional Professor: $124,000 – $150,000
  • Instructional Professor: $150,000 – $170,000
    Additional summer work may be available for extra compensation.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (by start date)
  • At least 1 year of college or university-level teaching experience
