Job Description

The Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS) is inviting applications for the positions of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor. If you’re passionate about teaching and have the required qualifications, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of an esteemed institution in Chennai.

About MIDS

Founded in January 1971 by Dr. Malcolm S. Adiseshiah and Mrs. Elizabeth Adiseshiah, the Madras Institute of Development Studies is a renowned research institution. MIDS focuses on social science research, and in 1977, it became a national institute under the sponsorship of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. The institution has a strong legacy in social science research, with key support from entities like the Reserve Bank of India.

Qualifications & Pay Scale

Assistant Professor

  • Pay Band: Rs. 15,600 – Rs. 39,100 + AGP Rs. 6,000 (6th CPC)
  • Pay Matrix: Level 10 (as per 7th Pay Commission, partially implemented)
  • Educational Qualification:
    • A doctoral degree in Social Sciences or related fields.
    • Proven ability to conduct independent research.
    • Specialization in Economics, History, Development Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, or Political Science is preferred.

Associate Professor

  • Pay Band: Rs. 37,400 – Rs. 67,000 + AGP Rs. 9,000 (6th CPC)
  • Pay Matrix: Level 13A (as per 7th Pay Commission, partially implemented)
  • Educational Qualification:
    • A doctoral degree with good academic standing.
    • At least 5 published papers in reputed journals or equivalent publications.
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in research and teaching at the university or national research institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

  • EWS Reservation: Candidates seeking benefits under the EWS category should provide an Income and Asset Certificate issued by the relevant authorities as mentioned in the notification.
