Organization Profile

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) traces its roots to the establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, in 1868, later relocated to Coimbatore. Affiliated with Madras University in 1920, TNAU took on full responsibility for agricultural education and research. By 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute in Coimbatore was the only institute of its kind in South India. In 1958, it gained recognition as a Post-graduate Centre, offering Masters and Doctoral degrees. The Madurai Agricultural College and Research Institute was established in 1965, and the Coimbatore Institute formed the core of TNAU when it was established in 1971.
