IIT Madras Recruitment for Junior/Senior Research Fellow (JRF/SRF) 2025

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is inviting applications for the temporary posts of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in the Center of Excellence (CoE) in Biodegradable Packaging Materials within the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Project Summary:

The packaging industry is rapidly growing, but its environmental impact remains a significant challenge. As a key sector of India's economy, the packaging industry is facing increasing demand across various industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and e-commerce. The current packaging materials, however, are not environmentally sustainable and pose health risks. This has created a pressing need for innovative biodegradable packaging solutions.

IIT Madras aims to tackle these challenges through the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Biodegradable Packaging Solutions (BioPack). The center will serve as a global hub for biodegradable packaging technologies, focusing on:

• Material Innovation
• Biodegradable Coating Solutions
• Process Development for Packaging Materials Production
• Scalability and Marketization

The BioPack center will collaborate with industries, academic institutions, and policymakers to foster sustainable packaging solutions, address environmental concerns, and promote circular economy principles.

Post Details:

1. Junior Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow

• Qualification: Graduate or Post Graduate Degree in Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Science, or related fields.
• Experience: JRF: Must be selected through NET, GATE, or other national-level exams (DST, DBT, DRDO, ICMR, etc.).
• SRF: Two years of research experience is required.
• Salary: JRF: ₹37,000 + 24% HRA per month
• SRF: ₹42,000 + 24% HRA per month
