About Kannur University
Kannur University was established under Act 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. Initially known as Malabar University, it came into existence on November 9, 1995, through an Ordinance by the Governor of Kerala. It was officially inaugurated on March 2, 1996, by Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. E.K. Nayanar.
The university aims to promote higher education in Kasargod and Kannur revenue districts and the Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad District by functioning as a teaching, residential, and affiliating university.
