University of Chicago Invites Applications for Instructional Professor in Computer Science for 2025

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago invites applications for faculty recruitment in the role of Instructional Professor (Open-Rank). Job Title:

Instructional Professor (Open-Rank) – Department of Computer Science

Position Description:

The successful candidate will:

• Teach six computer science courses per academic year, in areas such as: Introductory Programming
• Algorithms
• Machine Learning
• Systems
• Maintain regular student office hours
• Engage in non-classroom service duties (e.g., advising, mentoring)
• Participate in ongoing professional development

This is a benefits-eligible role covered by a collective bargaining agreement with SEIU.

Salary Range / Pay Grade:

This position includes a nine-month academic appointment with the following salary ranges:

• Assistant Instructional Professor: $110,000 – $139,000
• Associate Instructional Professor: $124,000 – $150,000
• Instructional Professor: $150,000 – $170,000 Additional summer work may be available for extra compensation.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field (by start date)
• At least 1 year of college or university-level teaching experience
