Organization Profile

IIM Shillong was established to provide high-quality management education and research in India’s North-Eastern region. The decision to set up this institute was taken during the Union Minister of Human Resource Development’s meeting with North-Eastern Chief Ministers in June 2004. Shillong was chosen as the permanent location for the institute after consultations with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER).

Qualifications and Experience

1. Professor

• Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant field with first-class academic records.
• Experience:
  • At least 10 years of teaching, research, or industrial experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years as an Associate Professor in reputed institutions (IIMs, IITs, IISc, etc.).
  • Proven research, training, and consulting credentials.

2. Associate Professor

• Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant field with first-class academic records.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience, including 3 years as an Assistant Professor.
  • Ability to independently undertake research and interact with diverse student groups.
  • Candidates from industries with equivalent experience may also apply.

3. Assistant Professor Grade I

• Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant field with first-class academic records.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching, research, or industrial experience (excluding the Ph.D. period).
  • Exceptional candidates with excellent academic credentials may be considered without prior experience.
  • Industry candidates with equivalent experience may also apply.

4. Assistant Professor Grade II (On Contract)

• Qualification: Ph.D. in the relevant field with first-class academic records.
• Experience:
  • This is a contractual role for young Ph.D. holders to gain teaching experience.

Candidate Profile

• A UG/PG degree in the relevant discipline with strong academic records.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills.
• Passion for guiding students and contributing to research.

Pay Scale

• Professor: Level-14A (₹159,100 – ₹220,200)
• Associate Professor: Level-13A2 (₹139,600 – ₹211,300)
• Assistant Professor Grade I: Level-12 (₹101,500 – ₹167,400)
• Assistant Professor Grade II: Level-10 (Initial Basic Pay ₹70,900)
