The Indian Maritime University (IMU) was established on 14th November 2008 through an Act of Parliament (Act 22). As a Central University, it aims to play a vital role in developing skilled human resources for the maritime sector. The university celebrates 14th November annually as ‘IMU Day’.

Departments and Qualifications

Faculty (Marine Engineering)

• Essential Qualifications:
  • MEO Class-I (Motor) Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India.
  • Minimum six months of sailing experience at the Management level as per the STCW Convention (amended).
  • VICT/TOTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course before joining.
  • AECS and TSTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course after joining.
• Desirable: Six months of teaching/training experience in Maritime Training Institutes in India.
• Duties:
  • Teaching and training pre-sea courses (B.Tech [Marine Engineering], PGDME) and post-sea courses (Competency, Modular & Simulator) and MMB courses.
• Age: Preferably below 62 years.
• Proposed Remuneration: As per IMU norms.

Faculty (Nautical Science)

• Essential Qualifications:
  • Master (Foreign Going) Certificate of Competency issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India.
  • Minimum six months of sailing experience at the Management level as per the STCW Convention (amended).
  • VICT/TOTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course before joining.
  • AECS and TSTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course after joining.
• Desirable: Six months of teaching/training experience in Maritime Training Institutes in India.
• Duties:
  • Teaching and training post-sea courses (Competency, Modular & Simulator) and MMB courses.
• Age: Preferably below 62 years.
• Proposed Remuneration: As per IMU norms.

Workshop Instructor (Electrical Engineering)

• Essential Qualifications:
  • Three-year Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering approved by AICTE OR
  • PO/CPO/MCPO in the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy/Coast Guard OR
  • Electrician or ETO from the Merchant Navy.
  • VICT/TOTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course before joining.
• Desirable: Relevant work experience for one year.
• Duties:
  • Training of Inland Vessel Crew.
  • Assisting faculty in workshops/simulators.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of workshop equipment.
  • Project-related work.
  • Sailing experience.
• Age: Preferably below 57 years.
• Proposed Remuneration: As per IMU norms.

Workshop Instructor (Marine Engineering)

• Essential Qualifications:
  • Marine Fitter from Merchant Navy OR
  • PO/CPO/MCPO from the Marine Engineering Branch of the Indian Navy/Coast Guard OR
  • Near Coastal Voyage (NCV) Class IV Engineer.
  • VICT/TOTA Course Certificate or willingness to complete the course before joining.
• Desirable: Relevant work experience for six months.
• Duties:
  • Assisting faculty in workshops/simulators.
  • Maintenance and upkeep of workshop equipment.
  • Training of Inland Vessel Crew.
  • Project-related work.
  • Sailing experience.
• Age: Preferably below 57 years.
• Proposed Remuneration: As per IMU norms.
