The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur, located in Jharkhand, is an Institute of National Importance established in 1960 as a Regional Institute of Technology. In 2002, it was upgraded to NIT status and deemed a university. It is among the 30 NITs in India, governed directly by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

Qualifications
Emeritus Professor
- Faculty retired from NITs, IITs, or Central Universities with roles as Dean, Professor, or Associate Professor are eligible.
- Assignment Duration:
- Initial term: 1 year (extendable up to 3 years or age 70, whichever is earlier).
- Essential Requirements:
- Engineering background with international visibility.
- High-quality research publications in journals and conferences.
- Fellowship in recognized academies or societies.
- Experience supervising M.Tech/M.Phil./Ph.D. students.
- Active involvement in national/international conferences and editorial roles.
- Preference for candidates with an h-index (Web of Science) of 10 or more.
- Responsibilities:
- Participation in sponsored research and consultancy with faculty members.
- Sharing laboratory space with regular faculty members.
Professor of Practice
- Eminent professionals from industry or R&D organizations with at least 10 years of experience.
- Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Design or Master’s degree in relevant fields.
- Ph.D. is desirable but not mandatory.
- Assignment Duration:
- Initial term: 1 year (extendable up to 3 years or age 70, whichever is earlier).
- Note: Retired professionals from industry or R&D organizations are welcome. This position is not open to those in the teaching profession.

Pay Scale
- Emeritus Professor: ₹1,20,000/month + unfurnished accommodation (standard fees and utility charges apply).
- Professor of Practice: ₹1,20,000/month + unfurnished accommodation (standard fees and utility charges apply).
