Position Description:
SMEK Mentors are essential to delivering high-impact learning experiences for students aged 5–14 during the SMEKplus (Science and Mathematics Extravaganza for Kids plus Engineering) summer camps.
Camp Dates & Groups:
- Junior Camp (Ages 7–10): July 8–10, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Senior Camp (Ages 11–14): July 22–24, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM
- Little’s Camp (Ages 5–6): July 29–31, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and guide an assigned group of students during camp hours
- Ensure student safety, attendance, and engagement
- Lead transitions between sessions, lunch, and activities
- Support camp presenters with hands-on STEM tasks
- Monitor well-being and distribute snacks
- Assist with classroom management and behavior support
- Provide end-of-day assistance with student pick-up
- Foster a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Enrollment in or completion of a bachelor’s degree
- Self-directed and team-oriented
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and quick adaptability to new software
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with a diverse campus community
- Capable of performing job duties with or without accommodations
Supervision:
- Reports to the STEM Outreach Coordinator
- Provides functional supervision to SMEK camp students
Working Conditions:
- Duties are primarily conducted indoors
